My Top Spring Nutrition Tips

When going into a new season, especially in Canada- where the weather is so diverse, I love to nurture my body with the nutrients it needs to adapt to a new climate. Just as you would do some “spring cleaning” with your home, it’s a great opportunity to do the same with your body.

One of my favourite ways to adapt to this season is to support the detox pathways. This will help your body clear harmful toxins, aid in cell regeneration, increase energy, boost your immune system, clear your complexion, and increase circulation! 🌿

🌈 Nourishing your body with a rainbow of fruits & vegetables

It will amplify your antioxidant intake, fight off free-radical damage, lower the risk of disease, and nourish your body from the inside out, helping those detox pathways to be strong and efficient at clearing pathogens and waste

🍎 Eat foods high in fibre!

Think happy poops! When you aren’t eliminating waste effectively, those toxins are sitting in your digestive tract, re-circulating and putting stress on the entire body. Focusing on eating fibrous foods at every meal will ensure you have effective waste elimination. Some examples of high-fibrous foods include avocados, apples, raspberries, Brussels sprouts, kale, chickpeas, oats, almonds, and chia seeds!

💧 Drink lots of water in a day!

Of course, everyone’s body has different requirements to feel healthy- but when it comes to hydration- it’s more likely than not that your body is deprived. There are thousands of functions that your body relies on water to operate at its best! A general baseline would be approx. 4L of water each day.

🌱 Add Digestive Bitters to a few meals each week!

Digestive bitters are a fantastic addition to any meal you’re making in spring! They aid in digestion by stimulating Hydrochloric Acid production in the stomach (which starts the whole digestive cascade), by enhancing digestive enzyme production (which helps break down food), and in turn, will allow our bodies to better absorb any other nutrients we’re consuming. Arugula, dandelion, ginger, lemon, and eggplant are all great examples of foods that have bitter properties that will aid in digestion and support those detox pathways!
